Zimmer Air Services Inc. is pleased
to announce our entry into the aerial photography market with our 14MP
digital camera system. This system offers
a complete ESRI GIS interface and navigation package that allows photo
data to be recorded and seamlessly correlated to positions on the surface.
In comparison to the film and satellite market, our system is a cost
and time effective tool for acquiring colour digital aerial photography.
Our system incorporates a unique
approach to gathering imagery and data. GIS points and/or grid lines
are programmed into the photo navigation system prior to flight. The
onboard system then directs the pilot to each waypoint and automatically
triggers the camera shutter at each location. The filename, time, date
and aircraft heading are recorded in the GIS database for each photo
point. A hyperlink to each photo can then be formed for easy retrieval
and ortho-rectification.
Digital technologies provide streamlined cost effective solutions for aquiring and processing aerial imagery.
- Digital photography produces the same high quality colour images as film.
- It eliminates the cost and time needed for developing and scanning photos.
- Quick turnaround: Photos and data can be delivered immediately after the flight.
- No tasking or programming fees

Converting film based photography
into digital is a time consuming and often frustrating process involving
a number of steps. To start with, because the photo is not visible until
the film has been processed, you cannot be sure that your photographic
efforts were successful until the photos come back from the developer.
Film processing can take several days or longer if larger photos are
needed. And finally, to arrive at the digital product, scanning the
photos involves additional time not to mention costly software and hardware.
Film and Satellite Systems add background costs to achieve the desired end product
- Expensive processing and up to a 3 week wait time for medium and large format films
- Time and hardware for scanning and cataloging photos
- Film can be lost in the mail during processing
- Satellite Imagery can have tasking and programming fees applied in excess of $1000 -$3000 per scene
- Satellite Imagery is also subject to delivery delays - upto 90 days to be delivered to the customer
